Therapies

With Traditional Chinese Medicine I may use varied therapies. These can be either separate or in conjunction with acupuncture, to promote and speed healing.

What is Cupping?

Cupping is used to stimulate the flow of Qi and Blood, primarily implemented for sore muscles, tension, neck pain and the common cold. In this therapy glass cups are applied to specific areas by suction.

What is Gwa Sha?

Gwa Sha is another technique used to release stubborn muscle tightness, constriction or spasms by increasing Blood circulation and moving Qi. It involves a special tool that is gently scraped or rubbed over affected areas.

What is Moxa?

Moxa involves a burning of the herb Ai Ye (mugwort) to “warm” areas in order to quicken healing.

What are Ear Seeds?

Ear Seeds are small “seeds” or pellets applied with tape, usually to the ear. The patient will wear these “seeds” for several days. These work by stimulating acupressure points in the ear which can increase acupuncture effectiveness or prolong acupuncture benefits.

Why Herbal Therapy?

Your acupuncturist may prescribe herbal decoctions in the form of raw herbs, powders, or tablets to treat certain conditions. They are used to strengthen, build and support the body or to clear it of excess problems.
